Temple Tour Of South India - 5 Nights/ 6 Days

Delhi-Chennai -Mahabalipuram-Tanjore-Trichy-Madurai-Delhi

Day 1: Arrive Delhi

Meeting and assistance on arrival and transfer to your hotel.

   
Day 2: Delhi- Chennai By Surface (77kms/2hrs)
After breakfast at the hotel in Delhi, proceed to the domestic airport to board your flight to Chennai. Upon arrival at Chennai airport you will be met & transferred to the hotel.

Check – in at the hotel.

After an hour of leisure at the hotel, depart for the sightseeing tour of the beautiful city of Chennai.

Visit Fort St. George – a British trading post and powerful bastion and entrance to South India. The 16 th century Portuguese old Cathedral of St. Thomas Church in which the remnants of St. Thomas is buried who came to India in 52 AD.

Pass by the University built in Indo-Sarscenic style, as well as 5 km long Marina Beach, a lovely esplanade by the sea, and National Museum with sculptures from Pallava, Pandava and Chola time which houses archaeology, art, exceptionally beautiful bronzes statues, with exhibits of stone and iron age .

Day 3: Chennai - Mahabalipuram By Surface ( 58kms/ 1.5 Hrs)
 

Today proceed to the small costal town along the Bay of Bengal Mahabalipuram. It is believe to be UNESCO world heritage Site.

Halt at the city of 1000 temples Kanchipuram, Famous for its three “S” – Silk, Saris , Shrines & Saints. It is one of the seven most sacred pilgrimage towns of the Hindus. Visit the famous Shiva temple at Kachi is the Ekambareswara Temple, the tallest Gopuram or the gateway towns in India.

Moving on to the Kailasnatha Temple , it is believed to be the oldest structure in Kanchipuram built by Rajasimha of the Pallava dyasty.

After an mesmerizing experience at Kanchipuram drive to the city of Mahabalipuram.
Upon arrival check- in to the hotel at Mahabalipuram.

Day 4: Mahablipuram-Chidambaram-Darasuram-Tanjor By Surface (255 Kms./5 To 6 Hrs)

After a scrumptious breakfast at Mahabalipuram, drive to the “Rice bowl of Tamil Nadu” – Tanjore. It has always been the centre of knowledge , art & culture. There are 70 temples built by the Cholas in Thanjavur. En-route halt at Chidambaram, The Sivakami-Amman temple, the Sivaganga tank, the thousand pillars hall are some important features of the temple. Proceed to visit the temple of Darasuram it is a 'Sculptor's dream in stone'. Musical pillars, Mandapam in the shape of a chariot, a wealth of sculpture and painting are synonymous with Airavateshvara Temple. The temple is a well-preserved example of 12th century Chola architecture.

On arrival, check in at hotel.

Day 5: Tanjore- Trichy- Tanjore  
Explore the city called “Rice Bowl of Tamil Nadu”, visit the Brihadeeshwara temple said to be “Great Living Chola Temples”, The Brihadishwara Temple is the world's first complete granite temple. It remains as one of the greatest glories of Indian architecture.

The exploration continues with the visit to the Raja Museum - The museum is said to exhibit a rich collection of artifacts including stone sculptures, replica of Brihadeshwer Temple, terracotta, bronze, puja lamps, palm-leaf manuscripts, copper plates and ancient coins.

Enjoy the bronzes art gallery-. Thanjavur Art Gallery which is adorned by an incredible selection of sculptures and paintings from the South of India.

Enjoy the local cuisine at a restaurant.

You will then venture into an excursion to Trichy in the afternoon. The city is known for its temple architecture. The Rock Fort Temple is the famous landmark of Trichy which is said to be 3.800 million years old, which makes it as old as the rocks of Greenland and older than the Himalayas.

Return to Tanjore.

Day 6: Tanjore-Madurai By Surface (158 Kms/ 3 To 4 Hrs)
Today your day is scheduled to visit one of the ancient cities of Tamil Nadu, Madurai.
Madurai inspite of being an ancient city is a very progressing one. Infact the city of Madurai is visited by Pilgrims & tourists in equal numbers.
Your 4 hr drive to Madurai will fascinate you as you drive thru the streets of South of India.

Upon arrival at Madurai ,Check – in at the Hotel

After an hour of leisure at the hotel proceed to the sightseeing tour of the city. Your tour commences with the visit to the Tirumalai Nayak Palace,- built by an Italian architect, the palace is said to have a wonderful sound and light show . Explore the temples of Madurai, visit the Thirumohur and Meenakshi Temple , dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort, Goddess Parvati (in the form of Meenakshi). The temple forms the heart and lifeline of the 2500 year old city of Madurai .

In the Evening you shall encounter the Indian rituals in true sense, a traditional prayer ceremony at the Meenakshi Temple will sweep you of your feet.

Day 7: Madurai- Delhi

Today you will be met and transferred to the domestic airport to board your flight to Delhi.
Your tour comes to a end.
