TRAVEL TIPS
 
India is completely different to any other country with its diverse mixture of peoples, climates, scenery, religions and cultural influences. It can be inspiring, moving and, at times infuriating. In order to gain maximum enjoyment from your tour to India its important go with an open mind and don’t attempt comparisons with any other destination or civilization.
 
Following are the Do's & Don't for your stay in India
 
Do’s
1) In case of need or desire to overstay you are advised to contact the nearest Foreigners Regional Registration      Office.
2) Please check power voltage before using electrical instruments. (220 / 240 V. are available in India).
3) Keep your valuables in hotel lockers/safe deposit vaults.
4) In case of loss of any documents contact the nearest Government of India Tourist Office / Police Station / State     Government Tourist Office.
5) For medical assistance you may contact hotel or accredited hospital / nursing homes.
6) Observe Local tradition / customs while visiting religious places.
7) There is prohibition on liquor in a few States. Check details from the nearest tourist office about the same.
8) Smoking not allowed in public places & vehicles, in some states.
9) Some Indians do not take alcohol or meat for religious, traditional or personal reasons. This should be kept in mind in     entertainment
10) Drink bottled water. Even many Indians who have lived out of India for a while sometimes suffer stomach upsets on       drinking local tap water. If there is no alternative to tap water, ensure it is boiled.
11) It is advisable to cover yourself with travel insurance for thefts, loss and medi claim.
12) Travelers should get properly inoculated against Yellow Fever if coming through infected regions.
13) Be careful of cultural and social sensitivities of the regions. There is no single rule for that. The best way is to       observe and follow.
14) While changing money, insist on getting encashment certificate.
15) Dress modestly
Don’ts

1) Women traveling alone should avoid walking at odd hours in certain deserted places
2) Don't ever enter a temple, mosque, tomb, dargah or Gurudwara with shoes on and/or scantily dressed. One should     cover his/her head with a cloth while in a Gurudwara or Dargah.
3) Do not encourage beggars.
4) Do not leave your cash and valuables in your hotel rooms. Keep your cash divided in different pockets.
5) Take care of proper disposal of waste material and do not litter.
6) Take care of contamination of water and food problem. Always drink safe mineral water and take well-cooked food.
7) Selling and buying "shahtoosh" shawls is a crime. The same goes for ivory.
8) Buy at genuine shops only. Bargaining is practiced at some places.
9) Don't eat anything offered by fellow travelers on train or road travels.
10) Always chain and lock your luggage under your berth in a train. Don't keep anything valuable near the window. Always       carry plenty of water, fluids in trains. A lone woman traveler should be accommodated near other women travelers.
11) All foreigners are advised not to buy ready-to-eat food from roadside stalls or mobile canteens. Not that they are bad       but your system may not be accustomed to such delicacies. There are plenty of reasonably priced restaurants in all       Indian cities and towns. If you are in a place where you can't find a decent restaurant, buy packaged bread and       butter and make do.
12) Export of Indian Currency is banned.
