DAY EXCURSION TO AGRA |
Following an early breakfast you will be board the comfortable deluxe air-conditioned coaches and set forth at 0700 hrs for the 4 hours drive to Agra (approx 4 hours).
On arrival at Agra (approximately at 1100 hrs) proceed to visit the Agra Fort - the seat and the stronghold of the Mughal Empire under successive generations. This was the seat of Mughal rule and administration and the present structure owes its origins to Akbar who erected the walls and gates and the first buildings on the eastern banks of Yamuna River. Shah Jehan added the impressive quarters and the mosque while Aurangzeb added the outer ramparts. In Akbar's time the fort was principally a military structure, but during Shah Jahan reign it had partially become Palace. It is an imposing structure with walls of red sandstone almost three kilometers long. Following your visit to the Fort, you will be taken for lunch at a hotel of your choice. |
Proceed to visit the Taj Mahal - to the lover of art and to the traveler seeking the wonders of India, Agra is the sublime destination. Enough songs of praise have been sung about the Taj Mahal. An enduring monument to love, with a continually fulfilling beauty, it was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1631 - 52, as a tomb and memorial for his wife Mumtaz Mahal (Jewel of the Palace) as an expression of his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, Construction is believed to have taken 18 years with over 20,000 craftsmen working around the clock. Legend has it that once construction was completed Shah Jahan had the architect’s hands cut off and blinded, so he would never be able to duplicate the structure. Though the Taj appears to be amazingly perfect from almost any angle, it is the close-up marble inlay work, which is really astounding. And back to Delhi (departing at approx 1730 hrs and arriving into Delhi at 2130 hrs) |
